The Institute of Marine and Environmental Sciences invites you to the next edition of the “Szczecin Marginal Seas Webinars” series. The 91st meeting of this multi-year initiative will take place in March.This series of seminars dedicated to shelf sea research has a rich history – it has been organized (with a short break at the beginning of the pandemic) since March 2015. Originally held in-person at the Institute, the meetings are now being held in a hybrid format, allowing for the participation of distinguished experts from around the world. The event is the result of collaboration between prof. Joanna Dudzińska-Nowak from the Institute of Marine and Environmental Sciences, University of Szczecin, and prof. dr. Jan Harff from the DDE Marginal Seas Task Group, as well as the Marine Geology Section of the Committee on Marine Research, Polish Academy of Sciences.
The 2025/2026 spring semester schedule will open on 12 March 2026 at 2pm, with a lecture by Dr. Chris Jenkins of the University of Colorado on Global Comparisons of Seabed Sediments in Semi-Enclosed Seas. Dr. Chris Jenkins is a recognized expert in marine geology, stratigraphy, oceanography, and marine geoacoustics, as well as the integration of heterogeneous spatial and linguistic data, and stratigraphic modeling of carbonate sediments with population ecology. In his lecture, he will present research focused on developing a comprehensive, integrated database, dbSEABED, enabling the mapping of ocean floor features and habitats on a global scale. His primary goal in this area is to support sound ocean governance and technology development.

- 26 April, Prof. Dr. Kehui Xu from Louisiana State University will discuss the dynamics of the sedimentary systems of the Mississippi and Atchafalaya Rivers in the Gulf of Mexico;
- 21 May, Prof. Dr. Alar Rosentau from the University of Tartu will address sea level changes and submerged landscapes in the Baltic Sea;
- 15 June, Prof. Dr. Christoph Humborg from Stockholm University will present a lecture on the pressing issues of eutrophication in the Baltic Sea.
The lectures are held at the Research and Education Center of the Natural Sciences of the University of Szczecin, located at 16–18 Mickiewicza Street in Szczecin, and online – always at 2:00 PM. The meetings are open to researchers, students, and anyone interested in marine topics.
