An exhibition of selected works by the finalists of the twelve editions of the International Photo Competition “Mathematics in Focus” was hosted at the building of the Senate of the Republic of Poland. The exhibition presented in the Senate presents the most interesting visual metaphors, selected by the jury from among the finalists of the previous editions of the competition.
The University of Szczecin and The Maria Grzegorzewska University have been organizing the International Photographic Competition “Mathematics in Focus” for 12 years. The aim of the project is to build a common ground between mathematics and the art of photography, support mathematical education, mathematical thinking, and popularize mathematical knowledge and culture. Participants send photos to which they assign names related to math.
Prof. Małgorzata Makiewicz, a coordinator of the project, stated that, as a teacher and mathematician, she tries to bring this science closer to the recipients, which is why over a dozen years ago she discovered photography as the “access code” to the queen of sciences.
