The Archaeogenetic Research Laboratory at the University of Szczecin was established on 23 January 2023. The agreement betwen the Insitute of History and the Insitute of Biology was signed by Assoc. prof. Agnieszka Szudarek, prof. of the University of Szczecin, the director the Institute of History and prof. Robert Czerniawski, the director of the Institute of Biology.

The Archeogenetic Laboratory is the result of cooperation that both Institutes established a few years ago during the research of the 17th-century crypts in the Collegiate Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of the World in Stargard. The main goal of the agreement signed is to create an interdisciplinary research team and disseminate rich but still underestimated history of Western Pomerania. The cooperation of the institutes within the laboratory will also bring numerous scientific benefits, the effect of which will be, among others, research on aDNA. The material for the analysis will be obtained as part of excavation works carried out by, among others, Department of Archeology of the Institute of History. In addition, the Archaeogenetic Research Laboratory may significantly increase the didactic attractiveness of the University of Szczecin and will create education facilities for students of archeology or the biological basis of forensic science.
