A unique meeting will take place on 10 December 2025. The University of Szczecin will host Polish astronaut Dr. Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski, who conducted an experiment coordinated by our university during the first Polish technological and scientific mission to the International Space Station (ISS) – Ignis.
The event will provide a behind-the-scenes look at modern space missions and explore the experiences of one of Poland’s most interesting scientists. Meetings with Dr. Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski are always extremely popular, introducing participants not only to the space sector, space itself, experiments being conducted, and operations on the ISS, but also to new technologies and the potential they bring. The event will consist of two parts – the first is a discussion with the astronaut, and the second is a question-and-answer session for Szczecin residents, including students and pupils.
The event “Man in Space” will take place on 10 December 2025, at 3:00 PM in the university auditorium at Krakowska Street 71-79 in Szczecin.
Free tickets can be downloaded at: https://app.evenea.pl/event/czlowiekwkosmosie/ The event will be broadcast live on our university YouTube channel.
It’s worth noting that the Yeast TardigradeGene experiment conducted on the ISS, whose full title is “Before We Go to Mars: Can Tardigrades Help Protect Other Organisms in Space?”, is being conducted under the supervision of Prof. Ewa Szuszkiewicz from the Institute of Physics at the University of Szczecin by a consortium of three universities: the University of Szczecin (project coordinator), Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, and the University of Silesia in Katowice. Its goal is to investigate the survival of genetically modified yeast (enriched with tardigrade protein) in space. A similar experiment on Earth will assess the effects of microgravity.
