The Copernicus Group (Kopernikus-Gruppe), bringing together experts on Polish-German relations from both countries, met in Szczecin at the initiative of the University of Szczecin. Cooperation and security were the main topics discussed. The program, titled “Szczecin Perspectives: A Regional Perspective on Polish-German Relations,” was organized and substantively prepared by dr hab. Pierre-Frédéric Weber, prof. US, deputy director of the Institute of History at the University of Szczecin and member of the Copernicus Group, an informal Polish-German expert forum established in 2000.
The meeting, which focused on security and cooperation in the border area, demonstrated the value of local and regional forms of cooperation and their resilience in the face of political challenges. The Copernicus Group plans to prepare a working document on these issues.
The project (no. 344/2025/TM) was implemented jointly by the University of Szczecin and the Deutsches Polen-Institut e.V. (German Institute of Polish Affairs) in partnership with the Stanisław Staszic Pomeranian Library in Szczecin – thanks to the support of the Foundation for Polish-German Cooperation (Stiftung für deutsch-polnische Zusammenarbeit).
