On 16 December 2025, a special event took place – the ceremony awarding the Order of the Smile to prof. Monika Niewiadomska. This international distinction is awarded to adults by children and is particularly significant, demonstrating exceptional dedication and appreciation from the youngest.

That day, the university auditorium on Krakowska Street was filled with children, as the youngest are the jurors. It was the alumni of the National Autism Society who submitted the application to award our scientist the Order of the Smile. Prof. Monika Niewiadomska has been associated with this institution for over 10 years and works passionately on its behalf.

I was delighted to hear that this year’s recipient of the Order of the Smile is dr hab. Monika Niewiadomska, prof. US at Faculty of Physical Education and Health. She has been dedicated to helping children for years, and her therapeutic and athletic work has become a source of real help for children with autism. Her commitment is admirable and worthy of such an honor. Congratulations. There is no greater reward than a child’s gratitude, their smile, and their trust, said dr hab. Katarzyna Kotarska, prof. US and Vice-Rector for Student Affairs at the University of Szczecin.

During the ceremony, the Laureate was appointed a Dame of the Order of the Smile, and, in keeping with nearly 60 years of tradition, she was required to drink lemon juice with a smile. This simple gesture underscores the spirit of the entire initiative and the idea that true kindness and devotion to children come from the heart, and that a smile can be a bridge that connects people. The ceremony was a moment of joy and emotion. Artistic performances and emotional personal expressions of gratitude were also featured. This was a moment when the ceremony took on a warm, family character and became a celebration of kindness, empathy, and selfless support for the youngest.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the Laureate on this prestigious title.
