We are pleased to announce that the Polish women’s 4x100m relay team, composed of Alicja Biedna, Natalia Nowaczyk, Sara Plewczyńska, and Martyna Boguszewicz, won the bronze medal at the 25th Summer Deaflympics in Tokyo. Two of the medalists – Natalia Nowaczyk (Faculty of  Health and Physical Education) and Martyna Boguszewicz (Faculty of Economics, Finance and Management) – are students at the University of Szczecin.

The Polish Deaf National Team athletes ran exceptionally well, demonstrating tremendous determination, excellent transition technique, and fantastic speed. The result of their efforts was not only a medal but also a new Polish Deaf record of 48.97 seconds, which will go down in history as Polish deaf athletics. The medalists’ coach is Rafał Śliwka, who has consistently built the young sprinters’ form for years and successfully guided them to world-class results. Deputy Minister of Sport and Tourism Ireneusz Nalazek was present at the stadium, supporting the Polish team in their quest for further success.

    Congratulations!

The Deaflympics are one of the world’s three most important Olympic-style sporting events, alongside the Olympic Games and the Paralympics. These competitions are designed for athletes with hearing loss, in which participants compete without hearing aids or implants, ensuring equal opportunities for all competitors. The Deaflympics boast an exceptionally rich tradition – their first edition took place in 1924 in Paris, making them the second oldest global sporting event, even older than the Paralympics. The Games bring together thousands of athletes from around the world, representing the highest levels of sport and proving that hearing impairments are no barrier to achieving world-class results.
