Read the interview with dr hab. Małgorzata Makiewicz, prof. of the University of Szczecin, conducted for “Kaleidoscope”, a monthly magazine of the LOT Polish Airlines.
The founder of the “Mathematics in Focus” competition discusses why mathematics evokes so many negative emotions among students and how this can be changed. She debunks the stereotype that humanities majors are “naturally” unable to cope with mathematics, explains the sources of fear of the subject, and demonstrates the importance of adapting teaching methods to a child’s cognitive development.
