Prof. dr hab. Andrzej Skrendo, Vice-Rector for Science, dr hab. Adrianna Seniów, prof. US, Director of the Center for Research and International Promotion of the Polish Language, and dr Nina Pielacińska, Deputy Director of the Center for Research and International Promotion of the Polish Language participated in the anniversary celebration in Beijing and visited two Chinese academic centers that conduct Polish studies.
As part of the anniversary celebrations in Beijing, the conference “Inheritance, Development and Innovation: 70 Years of Polish Studies at the Beijing Foreign Language University” was held. The conference was opened by Ms. Agata Kornhauser-Duda, wife of the President of the Republic of Poland, and Mr. Jakub Kumoch, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to China, while the opening lecture “The International Significance of Polish Literature” was delivered by Prof. Andrzej Skrendo.
The conference programme also included papers by dr hab. Adrianna Seniów, prof. US, on the Harbin collections in the Pomeranian Library, and dr Nina Pielacińska on Szczecin literature from a glottodidactic perspective, which at the same time promoted Szczecin. The scientists also conducted phonetic workshops for first-year students of Polish studies.
An important part of the stay were meetings with the authorities of the Beijing university – they allowed to discuss the scope of future cooperation and establish a schedule of activities. Representatives of the US were also invited to the celebration of the tenth anniversary of the establishment of Polish studies in Guangzhou, which took place on October 20, 2024. During his plenary speech, Vice-Rector Andrzej Skrendo announced that actions would be taken that would enable students from Guangzhou to complete part of their studies at the University of Szczecin.
Both the Beijing and Guangzhou ceremonies were attended by representatives of Polish National Agency for Academic Exchnage and many Polish academic centres. It enabled the exchange of experiences related to international cooperation. The importance of the events was highlighted by the fact that both the Polish Ambassador in Beijing and the Polish Consul in Guangzhou joined in the jubilee celebrations of Chinese Polish studies, hosting the conference participants at their diplomatic missions.
