    A symposium of rectors of public universities in the Polish-German border region was held at the University of Szczecin on 28 October 2024. The invitation of the authorities of the University of Szczecin and the UNESCO Chair for Sustainable Social Development was accepted by the rectors and representatives of the University of Greifswald, Hochschule in Neubrandenburg, Hochschule in Stralsund, Hochschule für nachhaltige Entwicklung in Eberswalde, the Maritime University of Technology and the Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin.The Rector of the University of Szczecin, prof. dr hab. Waldemar Tarczyński, emphasized that this is the first joint meeting of rectors of universities in the border region since the transformation. He also drew attention to the new context of Polish-German cooperation.
    The participants declared that they would start work on creating a network of universities in the Polish-German border region of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Western Pomerania and Brandenburg. Dr Paweł Bartnik – representing the Association of Polish Communes of the Pomerania Euroregion, emphasised the importance of such an agreement in the work on establishing a new financial perspective for regional funds.
    The following day, working groups of researchers representing various research disciplines, from natural sciences to social sciences, began their work at Hochschule Neubrandenburg. The two-day event was organized by the UNESCO Chair for Sustainable Social Development, which operates at the Doctoral School of the University of Szczecin in cooperation with Hochschule Neubrandenburg.
