The first certificate examination in Polish as a foreign language took place at the University of Szczecin on 22-23 June this year. The Faculty of Humanities of the University of Szczecin is a unit responsible for organizing and conducting the exam. The examination session is a continuation of the activities undertaken by the unit in the field of teaching Polish as a foreign language. Currently, at the University of Szczecin, foreigners can not only take advantage of language courses, but also obtain a certificate of the Polish language competence. The certificate is the only state document confirming knowledge of the Polish language, recognized when applying for Polish citizenship, and also required from foreigners employed in Poland in health care or civil service. The document is recognized by universities when recruiting for studies in Polish. The certificate is valid indefinitely. Foreigners and Polish citizens permanently living abroad can take the exam. The exam consists of five parts: listening comprehension, comprehension of written texts, grammatical correctness, writing and speaking.

In recent years, the University of Szczecin has become known as an institution that willingly supports foreigners learning Polish. Our commitment to helping refugees from Ukraine is irrefutable proof of this. Examinations in Polish as a foreign language are our next step. The University of Szczecin has become a leading center in the region preparing for this exam and authorized to certify its knowledge – says dr hab. Krzysztof Nerlicki, prof. US, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities.
