Institute of Marine and Environmental Sciences is a continuation of the Institute of Marine Sciences, which started its operation on October 1, 1990 within the Faculty of Biology and Marine Sciences. The director of the Institute of Marine Sciences was Prof. Stanisław Musielak. In 1992, the Institute of Marine Sciences was incorporated into the structure of the Faculty of Natural Sciences until the establishment of the Faculty of Earth Sciences in 2008, of which it became an essential part.
In connection with the accompanying restructuring of the university on 01.10.2019, a new Institute of Marine and Environmental Sciences was established on 01.10.2019, whose academic staff was enriched with 17 employees of the former Faculty of Biology, declaring “Earth and Environmental Sciences” as their scientific discipline. The position of director of the new institute was entrusted to Assoc. Prof. Andrzej Osadczuk, Prof. of the University of Szczecin.
